1. Purpose

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for the adhesive installation of sintered stone panels. The adhesive application method ensures strong bonding between sintered stone and structural surfaces for both interior and exterior use.

2. Scope

This guide applies to all sintered stone adhesive installations, ensuring a standardized and high-quality process.

3. Preparation Before Installation

Technical Preparation

  • Review construction drawings and develop a detailed adhesive installation plan.

  • Conduct a technical briefing for the installation team to ensure proper understanding of the process.

  • Provide safety instructions to the workers before starting.

Material Preparation

  • Sintered Stone Panels: Ensure they meet quality standards and match project specifications.

  • Adhesive Mortar: Use C2TES1 flexible tile adhesive or C2TE tile adhesive, ensuring certification and compliance with quality standards.

  • Primer: Should meet design requirements and be certified for quality.

  • Joint Filler: Must have a certification of conformity to design specifications.

  • Corner Protectors: Should be used to prevent chipping and breakage.

Required Tools

  • Mixer, trowels, buckets, notched trowels, putty knives, vibrators, straightedge, level, laser level, and sintered stone cutting tools (rails, cutting machines, scoring knives).

4. Pre-Installation Conditions

  • The installation surface must be flat, clean, and free from dust, oil, old coatings, or any other contaminants that could weaken the bond.

  • The base wall should be checked for hollow spots, which must be fixed before installation.

  • Verify horizontal and vertical reference lines to ensure proper alignment.

  • Ensure all necessary materials are prepared and organized at the worksite.

  • If working in hot and dry conditions, the base surface must be moistened before installation.

  • Workers should wear appropriate safety gear.

5. Installation Process

Step 1: Surface Preparation

  • Ensure the base surface is level and deviations do not exceed 3mm.

  • Clean the sintered stone panels and check for color consistency, flatness, and size accuracy.

Step 2: Layout and Marking

  • Use a laser level or measuring tools to mark the reference lines for proper panel placement.

  • Establish horizontal and vertical guidelines to maintain alignment.

Step 3: Adhesive Mixing

  • Assign a designated worker to mix the adhesive for consistency.

  • Follow packaging instructions:

    1. Add water and additives to a mixing bucket.

    2. Gradually pour the tile adhesive powder while stirring with a mixer.

    3. Mix until the adhesive reaches a smooth, lump-free paste.

    4. Let it sit for 5 minutes, then stir again briefly before application.

Step 4: Adhesive Application

  • Apply the adhesive using a notched trowel, ensuring proper coverage.

  • Use the same-direction method for spreading the adhesive, holding the trowel at a 60-degree angle to create uniform ridges.

  • Apply a thin layer of adhesive on both the sintered stone panel and the wall.

  • The adhesive layer on the wall should not exceed 10mm.

Step 5: Placing the Sintered Stone Panels

  • Position the sintered stone panel carefully onto the adhesive.

  • Use a vibrating tool to ensure full adhesion and remove air pockets.

  • Check alignment with a 2m straightedge, making adjustments if necessary.

  • Maintain consistent joint gaps of 8-12mm, depending on the panel size.

Step 6: Joint Filling

  • After 20 days, apply color-matching epoxy grout or joint filler for a seamless finish.

  • Ensure joints are properly sealed to prevent water infiltration.

6. Common Issues and Solutions

Issue Possible Causes Solution
Hollow spots under stone Insufficient adhesive coverage Use a larger notched trowel, increase adhesive application
Uneven adhesive layer Uneven application, dry adhesive clumps Ensure proper mixing, clean the trowel before application
Weak bonding Dust or moisture on base surface Clean base surface, ensure it is dry before applying adhesive
Tiles sliding down Adhesive too thin, heavy panel weight Adjust adhesive mix ratio, install panels from bottom to top
Insufficient adhesive on the back Fast-drying weather, excessive adhesive spread at once Work in smaller sections, check adhesive tack before placing stone
Hollow spots after drying Adjusted panel after adhesive setting time Do not reposition panels after the adhesive has begun to set

7. Quality Control

  • Ensure panels are properly aligned, with uniform gaps.

  • Adhesion must be strong and secure, with hollow spots not exceeding 10%.

  • Surface should be smooth, without visible scratches or uneven edges.

  • Joint width should be within 1-1.5mm tolerance.

8. Additional Considerations

  • Protect installed panels from direct sunlight, rain, or extreme cold for at least 24 hours after installation.

  • Cover grout lines after filling to prevent premature drying or damage.

  • Maintain humidity levels to allow proper adhesive curing.

  • Conduct final inspection before moving on to the next phase of construction.

By following this guide, you can ensure a secure, high-quality sintered stone installation that maintains durability and aesthetic appeal over time.
