We all want to get the most from our mosaic tiles, but in order to do so, being aware of the core maintenance requirements for these excellent materials is highly important. Luckily, as professionals in the mosaic tile industry, our team here at WIFi is on hand to help you find out more about mosaic tiles and how to keep them looking their best.
In order to maintain mosaic tiles effectively and reliably, there’s a lot you may need to keep in mind. Fortunately, we’ve outlined some of the main things you should know at each step of the process to help.
Maintaining your mosaic tiles starts as soon as you’ve finished installing them. Indeed, when applying grouting, there’s a high risk of the grout spreading to the edges of the tile, disrupting that clean-cut finish you may have been working for. As such, while installing the tiles, make sure you wipe off any excess grouting to prevent it from damaging the tile.
Cleaning your mosaic tiles regularly to prevent long-term, lasting damage. Fortunately, there are plenty of ways you can go about this. A dedicated mosaic cleaner is the best here. However, there are plenty of other options you could try, such as cleaning the tiles with warm, soapy water or using a gentle baking soda and water mix.
As soon as you’ve installed your mosaic tiles, make sure to apply a waterproof sealant and allow this to set. This will help prevent damage to the mosaic tiles, although sealants will only last so long. Keep a close eye on how much sealant is left, and if you notice that the tiles are beginning to get exposed to the elements, you may need to reapply the sealant.
Eventually, there will come a time when your mosaic tiles may need replacing. This could be because the tiles have gotten old and worn, or it could alternatively be that one has gotten damaged.
Fortunately, replacing a single tile is actually surprisingly simple: pry up the tile gently from the edge, taking care to ease the tile off fully without damaging those around it. If the tile is particularly well stuck, you may need to break the tile to make it easier to remove. Then, remove the adhesive either by soaking it in water or scraping it off with a knife or sharp-edged utensil. Once this has been fully removed, simply reapply the adhesive and fit the new mosaic tile, sealing it as necessary.
While looking after your mosaic tiles will inevitably help you get the most from them, if you want the best possible experience, starting with the highest-quality mosaic tiles could help.
