Flexible Stone Installation Guide
Watch our guide videos to learn how to properly install and maintain flexible stone.
Step 1: Prepare the Surface
Clean the Surface
Ensure the surface where you will be applying the flexible stone is clean, dry, and free of dust, grease, or any loose material. Use a clean cloth or sponge to wipe down the area.
Check for Primer Requirement
Some surfaces may require a primer to ensure proper adhesion. Check the manufacturer’s recommendations for your specific adhesive and surface type.
Step 2: Measure and Cut the Flexible Stone
Measure the Area
Use a measuring tape to measure the area where you will be installing the flexible stone. Mark the dimensions on the back of the flexible stone sheets.
Cut the Sheets
Using a utility knife or stone cutter, carefully cut the flexible stone sheets to the required size. Ensure the cuts are straight and precise for a professional finish.
Step 3: Apply the Adhesive
Choose the Right Adhesive
Select an adhesive that is suitable for both the flexible stone and the surface you are working with. The manufacturer’s recommendations should provide guidance on the best type of adhesive to use.
Spread the Adhesive
Using a notched trowel, spread the adhesive evenly over the surface. Apply enough adhesive to cover the area where the flexible stone will be installed, but avoid applying too much, as this can cause the adhesive to seep through the joints.
Step 4: Install the Flexible Stone
Position the Sheets
Carefully position the cut flexible stone sheets onto the adhesive-coated surface. Start from one corner and work your way out, ensuring each sheet aligns properly with the adjacent sheets.
Press and Smooth
Use a roller or squeegee to press the flexible stone sheets firmly into the adhesive. This helps to eliminate any air bubbles and ensures a strong bond. Check with a level to make sure the sheets are even.
Step 5: Finishing Touches
Clean the SurfaceClean the Surface
Wipe down the surface with a clean cloth or sponge to remove any excess adhesive that may have squeezed out from the edges.
Seal the Joints (If Required)
If your project requires a sealant, apply it along the joints between the flexible stone sheets. This will help to protect against moisture and enhance the durability of the installation.
Step 6: Allow to Set
Drying Time
Allow the adhesive to set according to the manufacturer’s instructions. This typically takes 24 to 48 hours, but drying times can vary based on the adhesive and environmental conditions.
Final InspectionCheck for Primer Requirement
Once the adhesive has fully cured, inspect the installation for any gaps or imperfections. Make any necessary touch-ups to ensure a flawless finish.
